Top 20 Favorite Movies

Lately I've been thinking about my top 20 favorite movies of all time. Here they are with genre, who directed the movie, the stars and who they played, Any important awards they might have won, a short synopsis about the movie, and a favorite line in the movie.. Thanks to Imdb.com for all the info I got!

20. When Harry Met Sally (1989)

-Synopsis: About two friends who meet after college who bump into each other throughout the years. The movie is basically about whether two friends of the opposite sex can be friends without all the added benefits.

-Synopsis: An alien spacecraft lands in a forest and when it leaves to go back to space it leaves one alien behind. A boy named Elliot finds him in his tool shed and decides to keep him. Everything is fine until E.T wants to go home and then gets sick. In the end he's able to go back home!

18. Back to the Future (1985)

This turn of events accidentally makes his mother fall in love with him rather than his father. So Marty has to figure out a way for his parents to meet so that he doesn't fade away and no longer exists in the world.
-Favorite Line: Marty-Calvin? Why...Why do you keep calling me Calvin?

17. Alice in Wonderland (2010)

15. The Princess Bride (1987)

14. Catch Me if You Can (2002)

-Favorite Line: Michael Oher-Sorry Coach. I stopped when I heard the whistle.

12. Edward Scissorhands (1990)

-Synopsis: An artificial man, named Edward, is left with scissorhands when his inventor dies before being able to put the hands on Edward. Sometime later Peg finds him and brings Edward to her home to live with her family where he falls in love with the daughter Kim.
-Favortite Line: Kim-You see, before he came down here it never snowed. And afterwards, it did. If he weren't up there now....I don't think it would be snowing. Sometimes you can still catch me dancing in it.

11. Like Water for Chocolate (Como Agua Para Chocolate)(1992)

-Synopsis: A love story set in Mexico between Pedro and Tita. Tita was not allowed to get married bc she is the youngest daughter so she has to take care of her mother. The mother allows Pedro to marry the oldest daughter but Pedro only marries the sister so thathe can be close to Tita. Everytime Tita makes a dish for the family or guests; whatever she was feeling for Pedro whoever ate of the dish would experience the feelings. For example: While Tita made the wedding cake she cried and some of her tears fell into the mixing and while the wedding guests ate the cake they all felt sadness.
Favorite Line: Nacha-You will be so beautiful that the first boy who sees you will want to marry you!
Mama Elena-Nacha! Don't say that. As my youngest daughter, Tita will care for me until the day I die. She won't marry.

10. Dirty Dancing (1987)

-Favorite Line: Johnny Castle-Nobody puts baby in a corner.

9. Titanic (1997)

This movie won a whole bunch of awards at different Award ceremonies. Probably the most popular movie of the year.
-Synopsis: A story as told by Rose 84 yrs after the sinking of the Titanic. She tells of the events of her life during the voyage.
-Favorite Line: Jack Dawson: Well, yes, ma'am, I do...I mean, I gt everything I need right here with me. I got air in my lungs, a few blank sheets of paper. I mean, I love waking up in the morning not knowing what's going to happen or who I'm going to meet, where I'm going to wind up. Just the other night I was sleeping under a bridge and now I'm on the grandest ship in the world having champagne with you fine people. I figure life's a gift and don't intend on wasting it. You don't know what hand you're gonna get dealt next. You learn to take life as it comes at you...tom make each day count.

8. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)

-Synopsis: A team of pirates capture Elizabeth Swann because she owns a piece of Aztec Gold that she actually stole from Will Turner. This Aztec Gold is the last remaining piece that will make these pirates mortal again.

7. Phantom of the Opera (2004)

-Synopsis: (Thank you to Brian for doing the synopsis for me :) ) -The story of Star Wars starts with a young boy named Anakin Skywalker, who is discovered by Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi when their ship is forced to land on the remote planet of Tatooine. They discover Anakin has the ability to become a Jedi Knight, and after the battle of Naboo and Qui Gon’s death, Obi Wan trains him through the clone wars. During the clone wars, Anakin falls in love with the former queen of Naboo, Padme Amidala, and they have twins. After the Clone Wars, Anakin is lured to the dark side by Chancellor Palpatine who turns out to be a Sith Lord in disguise. Anakin, however, in his attempt to kill his former master and becomes badly disfigured and dawns the black suit and becomes Darth Vader. A while later, Anakin’s son Luke is trained by an older Obi-Wan Kenobi and takes on the Empire, which includes his father. They successfully blow up the Death Star, and Luke discovers the truth on Bespin, that Darth Vader is his father. After being trained by Yoda, a Jedi Master, Luke takes on his father again and, just before his father’s death, manages to get him to come back to the light side. In the end, the Empire and Emperor Palpatine are destroyed by a gang of Rebels led by Luke, his sister Leia, and Han Solo.

-Synopsis: It's about a Hobbit named Frodo who inherits his uncles Ring. Turns out it needs to be destroyed in Morder. So Frodo, 3 other Hobbits, an Elf, 2 humans, a Wizard, and a Dwarf set off on a mission to Morder. On the way they all get seperated and each of them have adventures that each have someway in destroying the Ring.
-Favorite Line: (Due to the fact that it's really long I decided to just paste it)
Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo...and it's worth fighting for.

2. Sound of Music (1965)

-Synopsis: A true story about a woman named Maria who lives in an Austrian convent in the 1940's and is sent to be a governess for 7 children of the widower Captain von Trapp. She teaches these children to sing and the children learn to love her and in no time at all the Captain comes to love her too
-Favorite Line: Mother Abbess- Maria, these walls were not meant to shut out problems. You have to face them. You have to live the life you were born to live.

Forrest Gump (1994)
